The work of Nikoleta Kovacheva is strongly marked by the many interests and searches of the author. It all started with the visit of a "casual visitor" to the house of her mother, who at that time was a textile teacher at the art high school in the town of Smolyan. At that time Nikoleta was still a child. The visitor was from Tunisia, warm and kind, and he changed her world by simply showing her his artwork. This meeting predetermined the first searches of the Art World and Nikoleta began her road to the future. She first graduated from the High School of Textile and Fashion Design in Sofia with a degree in Fashion Design, and then continued at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, with the same speciality. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree, she was attracted to cinema, the costumes of ancient times and the history that led her to Scenography. She is currently an artist, who combines everything she has learned over the years from painting on paper, fabric, glass, and walls, as well as cutting, sewing, weaving and designing decors.
The event that marked the largest part of the style in her work was her acquaintance with the teachings of Yoga. At that time she was in her first year at the academy. At that moment Nikoleta´s search in the Art world moved from external (visual material of the fashion design, forms, models, decors) to internal (the art of the soul). The intersection between these two worlds is her very work. The figurative tools are borrowed from Yoga, Human Design, Kabbalah and others. For Nikoleta, the image is not just a visual material, but a sacredness representing ideas, philosophical doctrines or just a quest.
Her first authorial participation was in 1999 when she was 9 years old. The project, to which she always returns, is a collaboration with her colleagues from the academy, where they present a modern design solution of Bulgarian folk costumes, made by papier mache with castings from vats. The exhibition is an idea of Assoc. Prof. Anna Avramova. It was presented in 2011 at the National Art Gallery.
