Bilyana Bozinareva

Биляна Бозинарева

The work of Bilyana Bozinareva as an author is the result of provocation and achievements on several different stages of cultural life in Bulgaria. Her acting career began at 16 when she entered the acting school at the Rhodope Drama Theater "Nikolay Haitov". In 2013 she graduated with Acting in puppet theatre at the National Academy For Theatre and Film Arts "Krastyo Sarafov". Her subsequent work on stage was appreciated with an award for young talent in the field of puppetry "Gray" in 2015, as well as a nomination for "Icarus" for acting in the show "Bremen Musicians". The art of theatre itself as a parallel between the visual, the narrative and the musical, is what directs her interest in other creative fields.

In 2018 she continued her education with a master's degree, but this time in the speciality of Journalism at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridsky ”, which brings her to work as a journalist and presenter at FOCUS Radio - Sofia. She presented in that time a show called "The Legends of Bulgaria", which was awarded a nomination for the award by the Ministry of Tourism in 2019 for journalistic materials based on tourism. The topics covered in the program were diverse starting from history, archaeology, and anthropology, as well as legends, mythology, and folk beliefs, which are insufficiently studied in the territorial context of Bulgaria. At the initiative of the radio, she began morning broadcasts as a storyteller. Her vocal incarnations as characters and narrators affect both well-known plots from world literature and lesser-known and forgotten narratives in history.

Given the genre specifics of her numerous creative projects, her interest in literature could be considered natural. For Bilyana as an author, however, it is not a result, but a reason, a particular kind of provocation to her creative pursuits. Thus, despite the theatrical performance's plot connection with the story's time frames, the greatest interest in literature for Bilyana is poetry and the short story. That compression of a few words, in which one says a lot - this is her biggest authorial provocation. In 2016, the literary magazine "Ah, Maria" published several of her poems. Followed by a literary reading on the stage of the theatre - studio 313, where she presents her new poems.

Although her work in the literary field is not seen as a consequence of her entire work, she is still deeply attached to it. The plots, referring to the literature of Surrealism, Absurdism and even to that Magical Realism, are part of her research in the field of history, anthropology, myth and belief, corresponding in a modern framework. Characters - animal anthropomorphic as a metaphorical basis, sending the viewer to the contextual nature of the character.
